wednesday
if you haven't been checking out the photolog in the photos section recently, you might want to check it out. i uploaded a few new ones.
i think i need a career change. what about an investment banker? or a mortgage lender? insurance? something that seems easy and pays well.
alright! some news coverage about a san luis obispo tech firm! oh, but it's that firm...damn it. wow lots of them. i remember talking with one of the people that work for bonzi software. the owner who's name escapes me, was really gung ho about these ads. didn't see anything wrong with this type of marketing. really boosted about it to employees. what i hate is that they are truly deceptive. most of the time when i am on tech calls to fix computers i see that stupid monkey or these internet speed boosters. when i ask how or why they installed this software every time the users says 'i dunno' or 'it said i needed too'. argh! then i proceed to uninstall them. i hate it when computers get bloated with shitty, useless software. bollocks.

tuesday
i am posting this message from a computer with a fresh linux install on the hard drive. i have three old hp pavilions just taking up valuable storage space in my garage. one is completely useless and i am going to grab some parts from it, the other is just way to tall of a machine. which leaves one that is somewhat bearable. 300mhz celeron, 96 megs of ram, 6 gig drive, cd drive. a simple linux box, sort of. i installed red hat 8.0 this afternoon and it went perfectly. i swear the more times i install linux the easier it is [getting better at figuring out all the bugs, hangups, and settings]. regardless what the geeks tell you, running in the graphics mode linux is still slow on these older machines. case in point: my main linux server is a pentium 200mhz with 128megs of ram and works like a champ, but all it does is smtp, http and ftp, network backups, and file storage. once you try to load kde or gnome desktops... sit back and grab some coffee because it is slooow.
some reasons i turned this old computer into a linux box: 1. to see what red hat has to offer in version 8; 2. create an mp3 jukebox for the living room. and; 3. boredom. speaking of boredom, last week i networked the house. what a project! each of the three bedrooms and the living room all connected with cat 5. i ran the cabling in the attic and down the inside of the walls into the cable plug boxes. [which was not as easy as it sounds the house has two levels each with its own attic and access point]. replaced the coaxial cable wallpaltes with network/coaxial plug combo wallplates so the install looks clean, neat and like it was done when the house was built. no exposed cat 5 cabling running under carpets or down the corners of the walls. okay enough about that...
which leads me to the mp3 jukebok. this machine will grab all the mp3 from my main computer and ones stored on it locally. it will be hooked into the main sound system in the living room. this makes the switching of music and music compilations much easier. endless play lists of all types of music.
i am rambling...good night!

monday
i don't feel heavier...that's a good sign. lot's of eating, drinking and visiting with the family. lots of leftovers too i just finished the turkey this afternoon. thanksgiving day was beautiful, except maybe too hot. sunny with hardly any clouds. nothing like sweating in november. crazy california weather. but, i shouldn't complain. rob just came back from new jersey. ass cold he said. 24 degrees, no thank you! friday was the opposite: overcast, chilly and some rain during the night. crazy california weather.
seems like the fire at the railroad square building introduced me to a new weblog. emdot.com. marya, was searching for info about the fire when she stumbled onto my photos of the building.
[notice the little santa hat in the upper right corner?]
