when i was 5 or 6 years old my parents would take my sister and i to the beach. a family trip. the 4 of us. along the central coast. to get away from the city, the heat, the mess. pismo, morro bay, cambria. we would camp in morro bay. take walks in cambria. swim in the waters of pismo. i remember i had a quandary with walking on the pismo pier. i was afraid i would fall through the spaces between each plank. i would fall and be eaten by angry fish and never see my family again. i would make my way to the beginning of the pier and watch as my family step aboard as if they did not notice the difference between the hard, solid concrete and the creaking of the wooden slats with the waves crashing beneath. they didn't notice the danger. i would stop. instant fear would fill my tiny body. i wouldn't, i couldn't, budge. nothing would make me step onto those boards. what if there is someway i could float across? my sister, 5 years older than me, would laugh and sock me in the arm [hard]. this poor miniature-man nearly in tears with wind-blown shaggy hair, holding his little arm in pain...just not wanting to be eaten by angry fish. my dad would have to carry me on his shoulders. i felt safe. we would venture to the very end of the pier. smelling the salty air. hearing my dad tell me to close my mouth as i watched the seagulls fly overhead.

i really can't explain to you why i thought that...but to this day, when i extend my foot and rest it on the sea-weathered timber of any pier, i think, for an instant, i might fall through the cracks.

10 year high school reunion

ok so it has been, what...a week since my last post...you should be used to that sort of absence.

took some time off to go back home for my 10 high school reunion. what a trip...in many ways.

it was very surreal to see all the people i graduated high school with. has it really been ten years? everyone pretty much looked the same, some people look better now in general than high school...could it have been the leftover bad hair from the 80's or the hideous tapped leg jeans in the 90's? it's possible. lots showed and lots were a no show. many of them are married or engaged. a handful are still single and some gave marriage a shot but realized - have fun stay single.

remembering all the fun and drama from high school made me realize what a great time it really was. some of us have known each other since kindergarten. some secrets were let out but some were still kept. what craziness. needless to say i partied like a rock star the entire weekend. drinking, going crazy, remembering, laughing, yelling! until the early morning hours...seeing the sun come up makes you check your watch. then if the flashback to high school is not enough, sneaking back home so you don't wake your parents was such a shock i had to laugh. crazy.

taking a break from work when you are self employed is a bit tricky. you can never really escape. it is in your blood to work. to think. i received tech calls over that weekend and some of my servers and web sites were fucking up. they were fine before i left! take me away.

now it is catch up...but worth it.

i forgot to take pictures...yeah that's right. i only shot a few...too busy.
some photos have not been posted to protect the guilty innocent
