ramblings...

thursday

barely function on little sleep. i have over-promised clients these past two weeks. my time management is horrible.

my current work load consists of a new site re launch with e-commmerce and working with a fulfillment center (they request crazy ascii layout files of the customer orders); 3 new web site designs; 2 sites require new shopping carts; site updates to my existing client list; some print work for a personal trainer; fuck, more is written down somewhere in this stack of paper. so busy that the palm pilot is behind with the task list. recessing back to pen and paper. :P

i am losing my mind.

coding, testing, coding, testing, fixing, screaming, yelling, testing, coding...crying...

late nights sitting in front of this glowing box, early mornings back at it. early is way early when one client is in nashville...can you say three hours ahead, nothing like a conference call at 5 am after 2.5 hours of sleep. ass-breath and a dry mouth i look like a horse eating peanut butter. i answer the phone with one eye glued shut and my boxers twisted completely around. i use my sexy voice...

the thing is, it will slow down soon, it always does. then i will be back to sitting in front of starbucks or uptown. being a girl's guy. (i am still not sure what that means exactly! ;) ).

remembering to eat is amazing. before i know it, 5 hours have whizzed by. damn! what i do when i must stay in font on this machine programming or designing is eat tons of fruit. i buy nectarines, bananas, oranges, apples (no good apples this season), grapes, stock up on whatever else. it's quick pre-packaged food. tonight is farmers market, i'll be the guy with the wheelbarrow.

saturday

i bought a new domain name: sixsix.org. just because. my height - 6' 6", so why not? (perk or drawback of working in front of a computer all day and godaddy.com being so cheap). it redirects to woodencracker.com, so nothing big, which leads me into the size (ahem). it is not big. it is short. having a short email address is hard to come by these days. small domain names are easier to remember, easier to type (especially on a phone or blackberry). this post is a little strange...talking about height, size, small, short...anyway

but it does give me another option for email as i get inundated with tons of bullshit spam at my work email, woodencracraker.com email, and yahoo.com webmail. it is soo unreal. and lame. my gmail account is working out quite nicely, no spam yet.

looks like google snatched up picasa. the link now is only showing the download page. no more example pages or more about the program. interesting. i wonder what is next, google replacing my computer internal search engine? imagine having google search for files on your hard drive...

thursday

i haven't been this happy since i got my heel

CAUTION: Geek Speak Ahead

you know how many photos i have on my hard drivess? over 10,000. 10,209 to be exact. that is too many. (and they are all keepers, ;) ) i have taken quite a bit more, but with digital cameras you can delete a bunch.

i have not used any software to sort, organize, and view these photos. i store them in folders based on the camera type, the year, the month, and the day (sometimes titled with the event). i try to remember the days i took a certain photo and retrieve it by trial and error. usually opening the folder and viewing the thumbnails.

how lame is that.

super lame.

i forget about a lot of photos over time, getting old i guess.

awhile back, angela over at slolane.org mentioned she was/is using adobe photoshop album 2.0 to handle all her photos. after putting off trying to ease my photo archiving i decided to download a copy *ahem*. i liked it, really super little program. it worked well to see all the photos in one shot and browse by time and date via a timeline feature.
i used this for about 3 days.

before i stumbled upon picasa.

this program is awesome, amazing really. it loads quickly, the browsing of all the photos in thumbnail view is blazing, and almost makes me nauseous. (sorry mac users, this is pc only. but who cares you have your own deal)

sorting was very precise in picasa as opposed to photoshop album, which seemed to not display my folders in order. not sure why. it scans the folder that contains your photos and then checks for updates in real time, so when you add more photos to your directory it automatically loads them.

the interface of picasa is smooth. very streamlined. apple comes to mind with how they make everything beautiful and really graphic intensive.

the coolest feature by far is the timeline. this is where i see the apple influence again. the timeline has a few of you photos as thumbnails and rotates through them displaying the main one as a backdrop. when you click on a photo set to the left, the thumbnails in front zoom by to display the set you clicked. fun layout. everything loads and views fast. no lag or jitter. and i run a 950mhz machine.

the editing options are easy and work very well: rotate, crop, red eye, etc.

and of course there is the sideshow options which fades selected photos into each other. you can set this to music too. so for grandma's birthday party you can lay down a N.E.R.D track.

i am very impressed with this little piece of software. the organizing and interfeace are incredible. as with any program you need to tweak it just a little to customize some of the features.

my life is now complete.

at $29 i had to buy it. plus until the end of july you get $5 off. there is a free fully operational 15 day trial, download it now and tell me i am 'all-time, not small-time'.

wednesday

i was out with the camera this afternoon. taking a break from all this work i have taken on.

busy, busy, busy.

just taking some shots of a few front yards, street signs, run-down shacks, flowers in-bloom, whatever caught my eye. when i was framing up the shots below of an old cement post, i heard a child's voice. i looked up and a small boy was skipping down the sidewalk with his grandfather trailing a bit behind him. coming my way, both in conversation. the boy with his numerous questions and gramps with all the answers. the boy was wearing black and white checked converse, white rolled down socks, blue corduroy shorts, a button up shirt and the brightest red hair. gramps had black sneakers, white tube socks with two bold, red stripes per sock that met the bottom of his swollen knees, khaki shorts, a white and blue stripped polo, huge black goggles covered his eyes, and a black pirates ball cap topped his head. i met the grandfather's gaze, seeing my reflection in his over-sized sunglasses.

'afternoon' i smiled.

his hand reached out for the boys shoulder, 'hi there' he replied. afterwhich i seemed to no longer exist. turning his attention back to the boy.

'you know what this post is for?' slapping his hand atop the post.
'what?'
'they used it to park their horse, tie it up on the loop'
'why?' the boy asked as if to no one and began chasing the cracks along the sidewalk.
'they did it a long time ago before cars and paved streets...' the old man gurgled explaining something else but i was out of earshot. i just smiled at the whole episode and continued with the shots.

you learn something new everyday.

so here is what 'they used it to park their horse'

tuesday

i am a disgrace to the blogging community. should i even be included in that community? when one has a blog one should blog everyday, at least 3 times a week, something, just let go. that would be nice. be fresh, new content. i have had a handful of posts this year. hardly anything verbal, mostly just my photos. without my photos this blog would be dead. no one would ever visit.

i'll have a good post, something funny, witty, topical, or interesting, or just plain crazy. but, in the process of doing other things, it leaves my mind. gone. so that sucks. also, you know when you created something in school you were really stoked on, and then you get to class and that nerd in the front did it better. you sulked. your pride was shot and you repeated the phrase 'born to lose and destined to fail'. i feel like that sometimes when i read other blogs. the stories are funny, witty, topical, interesting, and just plain crazy. how do you compare to that. talk about how your frog ate a giant potato bug? no...stop.

so take more picture you say. well, the same goes with that. i think i take pretty darn good photos. but then i see others...wtf...awesome shots.

so there in lies the dilemma.

me writing is no good and me photo takin' is no good.

but then...i really have this blog for myself a vomited archive of my past and present. don't get me wrong, i love all you troopers that still click over to this place! i just gotta do it...post...post, post, post, post, post! maybe i just need to 'feel' it again.

testing 1...2...3...

i felt a shift, i think it is moving.

i am going to give it the old college try...uhh...on second thought that is a bad idea :P.

i am going to post more. i will post tomorrow. i promise.
