ramblings...

wednesday

thunder and lighting. the night sky was lit up by sporadic flashes of light covering most of the southern sky. if you listened closely you could hear a faint, low rumble.

move to the morning sky. loud, booming thunder. bright white flashes. light rain. an official thunder-storm.

i can't recall the last time i heard thunder or witnessed lighting. i was sitting outside watching the illuminating sky which would display at random making it difficult to time the blinking of my eyes with the flashes. i felt like a kid watching an oncoming storm for the first time.

this morning i was up early listening and watching. the lighting was not as dramatic as last night but that didn't matter. the thunder was more powerful and more frequent. brilliant....how old am i?

silly.

on a side note: i am currently annoyed with the freaking flash ads. the ones that 'pop-in' inside your web browser, right over the web page you are on. right on top of the text you want to read. like an unwanted insect. it dances, spins, flies, burps, follows, talks, spits...fuck! i want to smack it out of the way with my hand. and to top it off, some of them don't have a way to close out, but those that do make you squint and try your best to click that tiny 'X'. if you miss...bingo...right to the said advertisers own web page....nice. very productive and not a waste of my time at all. be gone! away with flash pop-in ads!

another panoramic photo. this time i drove to the top of the palm street parking structure and stood on the highest point to snap it. i need find a place that is higher so i can capture more of the downtown area. you can see the tall hotel building in the shot. that would be perfect. that is where i need to be. devising a plan on how to gain roof access.

you might say, 'why not hike to the top of a local mountain?' [plenty of them] my cardio is not what it used to be. i would die before i made it to the top of any mountain.

tuesday

i was thumbing through some old photos i took during my high school photography class. there was a proof [which is photo paper that has the negatives exposed onto it giving you little thumbnails of the positive picture]. my mother had some old photographs: a few family and the only one of her as a teenager. like a class photo, maybe. this was before i owned a scanner or new how to operate one. so how does one make reprints of photos without a scanner? purchase a high quality, 200 asa speed with low grain. about a $12 roll back then. this will produce a high res photo in the analog world. it seems i took the photos and developed the film myself but didn't have enough time to develop the pictures [no more class? forgot about them?]. so, now i am going to get those developed [the downside is that these picture really need to be developed by the human eye. computers always develop b&w photos too dark. these need a lot of tweaking]. i would like to gain access to a dark room and do it myself. some very old photos i am sure my mother would love to see again along with all kinds of digital retouching!

having dug up old photos, i should set aside some time to scan them in. 'just in case' and to share them with online friends!

in the meantime i slip back into digital film.

i love it when a domain name takes 15 days to transfer from one registrar to another!

woodencracker.com was due to expire on july 15, 2003. which was yesterday. i decided to move it to godaddy.com on july 1. plenty of time i thought! well i guess not, because as of right now, the site is down only showing a renew now page. i hate seeing those.

why can't things just work!!

kudos to marya for going out of her way and actually phoning me to tell me i forgot to pay the bill! :). i feel the love!

i would like to share some spam with you:

Hello &first_name;,

Sorry for contacting you at such a strange time during the day.

at least make sure your code works right before you spam me...

i was wondering today if i have any verbal ticks or sometimes referred to as a verbal crutch. i know that i cuss a lot and say the words 'so' and 'ahhh'. not the word 'uh' but 'ahhh'. almost like a bad b-movie horror flick scream from the first to die, non-lead male. a janitor perhaps? the mean gym coach who had it comin'!

so, i say 'so' and 'ahhh' a lot. so? not too much...maybe too much. i use 'so' as a transitional phrase and 'ahhh' when i am searching for a sentence, not a word but a complete sentence that i am constructing in my head, recompiling, then restructuring, then i spew it forth.

some people have a verbal tick that is not even a word. more like a cough or a sniffle or a nasally wisp. i had a roommate who would always clear his throat after each sentence. he would speak, then end with a 'e-hh' (that is how i would write the sound). it wasn't a cough or a high-pitched noise. more like a short burst of air roaring through the nose. a small burst. keeping your mouth closed then just force air through your nasal passage. just a quick burst (careful you may send something flying). that is the sound! after each sentence!

ahhh, so!

another roommate used to make popping noises with his mouth for no reason. as if it was part of his vernacular. or he was studying for his aboriginal tribal test. take your lips and curve them inward under your teeth. now bite down (not too firmly!) so your are now biting your lips. push your lips outward and *POP*. that is the sound. do that 3 times consecutively. maybe 4...try 4...

wtf?!

at least i don't speak in the third person.

what is your verbal tick? fess up!

some photos from the san luis obispo sun set drive-in. still in operation making it 1 out of ~500 still pulling flicks!

wednesday

some photos taken at cal poly. a little odd to me that i have never taken pictures on campus before. makes me wonder if i was still in college what type of photos i would capture on a daily basis...

i have also been told via my account information on amazon.com that i have purchased 86 items since i started my account in 1996. that's not a bad thing, right?

thursday

it is rather difficult to find parking in the downtown area of san luis. even with the huge addition to the parking structure. but i like thursday afternoons. this is when parking spots are abundant. you see every thursday is farmer's market in san luis where they block off higuera street to traffic. so the city puts signs around each meter stating no parking after 5:30. what i have come to realize is that a lot of people just see the no parking portion and just drive on past. i love it! always pull right on in an give a little smile in the rear view mirrors of those that past up the spot. check it out next time you are downtown on a thursday. but parking is hell once farmer's is on!

this also works in construction zones as well. people just don't know the current time or the current date or just hate reading and ignore those spots.

on a side note: i bought a new muffler for the truck today. the guy sold me on the flowmaster muffler.

'ya know, since your stock muffler has two tailpipes, for $20 more you can have the flowmaster series performance muffler with a single 4" diameter tailpipe, it gives you a nice low rumble and is perfectly street legal.'

sure, why not? now i feel like i am back in high school.

tuesday

a message that speaks for itself?

within 20 hours of launching the site, 735,000 people signed up for the do not call list. wow...which explains why it couldn't be reached by me until monday.

sign up now!

i remember when i received 1 of many phone calls from a tele-marketer. seconds into his schpiel, i stated i was not interested at all and hung up the phone. 22 seconds later the phone rang again, i answered it, same guy, i'm sorry mr. [worst pronunciation of my last name], we must of been cut off. right i said and hung up.

i have it easier than most people with the tele-marketers. no, i still get calls every day, but the difference is my last name. it is very difficult for most people to pronounce. even if one were to sound it out how it looks, one should get pretty darn close. but so many tele-marketers butcher it. so when they say is mr. malcovious [mr. macowhack, mr. maaa cow ak, mr. malco] available, i say there is no one here by that name. *click*
