poetic license prt. 2
you know when you hear about these gallot polls, 4 out of 5 people..., 80% percent of the city, etc...where are you when these polls and statistics are taken? i always felt that way. so am i part of the unstated 20%, that 5th person who disagrees or has that fungus...
i always read the new times and one of the quick little snippets one must read is the street talk. this is where they ask random people a question. then they publish it...the answer...to their question...not the correct answer or the answer that best fits the papers demographics..but the actual answer that was given.
rob and i were walking to rudolph's for the best double americano in town. we were stopped by a guy who was fiddling with his camera. 'excuse me' he blurrted out while looking down into the lens of his camera. my reaction was that he needed help with his camera, wanted a lame picture of himself, or needed directions to a dance club. he said he worked for the new times and wanted to know: 'what is the best thing and worst thing about summer'. ah the street talk thingy...cool. of course he picks rob cuz he is the better looking of us.
so rob had a little trouble trying to think of something and i told him just say you like the ladies and you hate the heat, we all laughed, but the guy snapped back that i will get my turn...okay...
after a few minutes of confusion and retracting answers rob finally came out with 'the sun is the best thing and there is really nothing bad about summer'. *bonk* that was his answer...i was there...his picture was snapped and then he turned to me. snapped my picture making sure that he captured my double chin and crooked smile. i really couldn't think of anything...i new the heat is something i hate...i sweat a lot...A L O T. seriously. then i said the ladies are a nice thing about summer...sure why not. (you ladies know you love the guys with the shirts off at the beach...you giggle and point.)
maybe that was were things started to get misconstrued, rob confusing the question me saying the worst thing first...whatever....maybe he should have wrote the shit we said on paper! he just repeated them back to us and took off...
so thursday morning there it is...everything we did not say. rob is extremely pissed and actually called the guy, chewed him out, yadda, yadda...rob was told there will be a retraction next week...i said leave me out.
it is what it is.
people see it, laugh or crinkle the brow and then turn the page.
the best thing about that experience was that upon my arrival at rudolph's there was a double americano waiting for me...free of charge. seems someone took off with the wrong drink. the snatched drink was a vanilla-nonfat-double-latte which belonged to our little camera man. ace!
after all these years of reading how stupid everyone is in the street talk and can say first hand...that they really are stupid.
'i like to experience girls' one could not even think that up in fiction!
