friday
when i went home last weekend my mother kept talking about a nest with two eggs in it. and how they have hatched. i kept thinking the nest was in a tree or some corner of the house. nope. get this, the nest was in a flower pot on a shelf in the backyard. how crazy is that? always thought nests are up and out of the way, in a safe place. so there are two hatchlings and a mother dove in this 6 inch terra cotta pot. took some shots of course. the mother flew off as soon as i brought out the camera. shy. so three birds cramped in a small nest...

saturday
today my grandmother turns 90 years old. the entire family on my moms side is throwing her a party. so i am traveling to my hometown. she has a very strong heart and, as most of our grandparents, has been through so much. born in 1913, she has seen amazing changes to the world, technological advances, numorus political elections, all while enduring the hardships that come with many of these changes. losing a son to alcohol and losing her husband in 1984. she has been gifted with 9 children of her own and many many grandchildren and great grandchildren [wondering if there are any great-great grandchildren, not sure]. i am still the single one in the family. even my cousins from texas are flying over for this event. the entire family. this will be quite an event.

bam! added another!
these ideas and communities are what make the web such a interesting space. sharing with others, allowing creativity, stimulating thought. with just a little bit of time wasting, :) this medium is everywhere and the human mind has never experienced anything like it. never before have we been able to gather instant information in a few seconds. images and information flashing on the screen one after another. we are saturated by it.
and the web is still young...who knows what it will truly evolve into within the coming years.
neat!

tuesday
any one else screwed up by the time change? strange how one hour taken away can cause so much change. sleeping too late, the sun being out too early, the days seem longer...the night never comes until after eight o'clock. bah!

sunday
i just got out of the shower [not to worry, i am fully dressed as i type this]. my shower experience is now at a level it has never been. literally. i bought a new shower head that extends the shower head up to a height of about 7 feet. the shower head is a large disk giving the effect of rainfall...pretty neat. now i can stand under the running water...isn't that great. i know most of you do not see the deal here. i am 6'6" tall, so in the shower, the spray hits my right in the chest. the task of washing your hair becomes an activity in itself to hunch down low enough to allow the water to wash away the shampoo. now i just stand there...straight...what bliss! although the years of hunching over has become instinctual. i still hunch. then realize that i don't need to...old habits...
maybe i was 7 years old. my mother told me to take a bath and get ready for bed. i went into the bathroom, started the bath. locked the door. filled the tub and then sat there. maybe running my fingers through the water. causing ripples, splashing the walls. after 8 minutes of so i would drain the tub. watch the water disappear. open the door and turn out the light. hit the sheets. i remember doing that a lot. i hated baths or showers when i was young [was i a dirty kid?]. i know many people have avoided their bath times when they were young, too [you know who you are!, fess up!]. i know my mother had to have some idea, the towel was dry as a bone! duh! strange what kids think. showers are so relaxing. sometimes 2 visits to the shower per day are required and welcomed.

wednesday
an excerpt from coffee and fitness: friends or foes? at ineedcoffee.com
Coffee gets its kick from caffeine, one of a group of naturally occurring
plant-derived compounds called methylxanthines. Caffeine is a drug, pure
and simple. It's addictive - too much can be toxic (although no one has
ever died of a caffeine overdose) - and withdrawal causes side effects
such as headaches and dizziness. When ingested, caffeine has a 'global'
effect, meaning it influences all body tissues, including muscle.
'Drinking a cup of coffee stimulates the central nervous system and
prompts the adrenal glands to release adrenaline, one of two hormones
released in response to stress. Your heart beats faster, glucose is
released into the blood stream and you feel energized,' explains Anthony
Haynes, a nutritionist at the Nutrition Clinic in London's Harley Street.
'In the short-term you feel revived, but over time this repeated stress
response frazzles the adrenal glands, while the liver becomes conditioned
to metabolize caffeine more quickly, meaning you'll need even more cups of
coffee to get the same lift.'
hmmm...note-to-self: brew more coffee.
